How a Strong Personal Brand Builds Influence
In 2025, a personal brand has the power to build professional prospects and build influence - but how does it work? Well today I’m analysing the power of a personal brand to find out why it’s so important, who needs one, and how you can build a personal brand that works for you.
There’s more to branding than simply having a business page. As personal brands are seen building authority and trust, businesses connected to them are growing quickly than ever before - making personal brands all the more important for business owners and influencers.
But what exactly is a personal brand and how do you even go about starting one?
Today I’m answering all of your questions about personal brands, to help you decide whether it’s right for you, and how to get started!
Let’s dive in…
What is a Personal Brand?
A personal brand is the way that people perceive you based on your skills and values, and is usually based on the reputation you build through your:
Voice
Values
Personality
Expertise
Look at it this way - your personal brand isn’t about the way you look, it’s the story you tell about yourself. Essentially, your personal brand is your reputation made visible.
Why is a Personal Brand Important?
People don’t just buy products and services. They buy from people they trust. Your personal brand is what helps to establish trust with your audience while standing out in a competitive market. Here’s how it works:
Building Trust With a Personal Brand
When you choose to share your knowledge, experience and values through a personal brand, you’re positioning yourself as a credible figure.
This means that people are more likely to connect with you, and later trust you over a faceless competitor. By using your personal brand to share your business ventures, your audience is trusting your expertise.
How a Personal Brand Makes you Unique
It’s 2025, so pretty much every industry is competitive - but your personal brand makes you different.
Why?
Because your perspective, style, and story, help you stand out from businesses offering similar services or products. Whether you’re a business owner, freelancer or an influencer, your personal brand helps you attract the right people and great opportunities.
It turns out that a personal brand transforms you into a recognised, memorable voice that keeps people coming back!
Who Needs a Personal Brand?
I’ve mentioned business owners and influencers a lot, but the truth is, anyone who wants to be remembered, trusted, and respected in their field can build a personal brand.
You see, personal branding isn’t just for public figures and influencers. If you’re building a business or selling a service, your personal brand can open doors to new clients, partnerships, and opportunities. If you’re building a career, your personal brand can lead to new job opportunities, clients and expand your network.
So it’s safe to say that if you’re online, a personal brand can have a huge impact on your life.
How to Build a Personal Brand (Infographic)
Building a personal brand doesn’t have to be complicated. Here’s a simple guide to help you get started:
Define Your Niche and Audience
Your niche is usually a specialised area of the industry that you work in. Meanwhile your audience is a specific kind of person that you’re looking to reach. When you’re establishing your target audience, it’s important to remember that you’re not trying to reach everyone - just the people that you feel will benefit from what you’re offering.
For example, if you’re a business owner that sells skincare products for adult acne, your niche would be “skincare” but can be refined to “acne treatment skincare”. Your target audience would incorporate the age, gender, and location of the people you’re trying to reach.
Develop Your Personal Brand Story
This is your story and should include who you are, what you do, why you do it and how you’re different. This can be a great place to be vulnerable in your story, while building authority in your expertise.
Let’s stick with the example that you’re a business owner selling products for adult acne. You may start your story talking about your own struggle with adult acne and how it made you feel. Then you’d likely move into how you decided to start making skincare that helped soothe your skin, and how you felt empowered to share your confidence with the world.
Choose Your Social Media Platforms
Your target audience isn’t going to be on every social media platform, and they’re likely not going to migrate just for you. You have to research where your audience is most active, and begin your journey there.
Create Valuable, Authentic Content
People respond best when they’re entertained and they’re able to connect with the content. So while it’s okay to jump on relative trends from time to time, your personal brand requires a steady balance of content that provides real value. It helps to have a variety of content so that your personal brand doesn’t feel monotonous.
Engage & Build Relationships
Real connection doesn’t happen when you post and ghost. You have to dedicate time to your audience and harness relationships in order to build familiarity and trust.
Monitor, Refine and Stay Consistent
While building your personal brand, it’s important to keep an eye on your analytics as they will tell you what your audience enjoys, how they prefer to receive information, and what makes them engage. Through this, you can continue to create content that encourages them to become a part of your journey.
